Help us reduce automobile accidents

There are three ways you can help is in our mission to reduce automobile accidents in this country. First, please make a donation to support our education and research program. Painfully little money is invested in safety research and we are taking steps to fill that void, but we need your help. If you can spare a few hours, consider volunteering to help us get the word out about drowsy driving. Finally, consider host a workshop about drowsy driving at your organization. Employeers may also want us to discuss the effects of drowsiness and the liability exposure companies face.

WHY DO 44,000 DEATHS GET SO LITTLE ATTENTION? Automobile acciedents have impacted virtually everyone in this country, but the problem gets a fraction of attention and research dollars that other national priorities receive. Each year approximately 2.7 million people are injured in automobile accidents, roughly twice the number of people diagnosed with diabetes in a given year. Yet our government invest about $500 in diabetes research for every $1 investing in automobile safety research.

There are 29 private foundations that fund diabetes research; there is only one funding research on driver safety. The largest diabetes foundation, the American Diabetes Association, has an annual budget of $200 million. The AAA Foundation for Automotive Safety has a budget of $3 million.

The Petterson Automotive Museum, a museum in Los Angeles displaying rare and classic automobiles has a $4 million budget. Do you think it right that we spend more money preserving old cars than we do young lives? At Atigo, we are determined to change this situation and we need your help. Please consider making a donation to support our work.

Host a Workshop

Atigo’s drowsy driving workshops are multimedia events that bring the problem of drowsy driving to life. Behind every statistic there is a real person. We bring you their story. We give you a better understanding of how sleep works so you can recognize the signs of drowsiness. Most importantly, we teach that when you feel drowsy, a 15 minute nap could mean the difference between life and death.

For schools, churches, and community groups in Southern California, we will present this workshop free of charge, and collect donations from attendees.

For business, we have can make presentations on drowsy driving or the impact of sleeploss on productivity and workplace safety. In addition, we are available to consult with company exectives about the liability exposure from sleep related accidents and about policies that minimize this exposure. There is a modest charge for our business seminars.

If you are interested in hosting a workshop at your organization, please contact Brian Chamberlin at 714.692.9400 for complete details.
